I am one of the generation that perceives The Ghost in the Shell as 'that' legendary Ghost in the Shell. I
cannot erase that admiration, that dread, or those prayers, nor do I ever wish to. 'We are going to birth a
brand new Ghost in the Shell!'—if I were my younger self from those days, that is surely what I would have
thought. Because I was young back then. The fact that I can now look back on that mindset as a form of youthful
overeagerness might just be the very reason I am allowed to portray Paz today. Paz is a bird's-eye observer
within the team, a silver-smoked, understated presence. And that is exactly what makes him so wonderful. 'To
simply live and act in the present moment'—as long as I can do just that among those magnificent members,
something will be born without us having to force it into existence. That is what I believe. And what is born
here will be taken by all of you living in this current era—within this cyberbrain world that has grown so much
larger and closer to us than it was back then—to be kneaded, molded, and ultimately give rise to 'this'
definitive Ghost in the Shell. That is what I truly believe.
